The Polish Canadian Humanitarian Society is a Canadian charity.
Our Mission Statement is “To help victims of war, terror, and natural and man-made disasters with particular emphasis on aid to displaced children, orphans, the elderly and homeless”.
Most recently, our efforts have focused on aiding Ukrainians in need resulting from the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russia in February 2022. In 2023, we raised $50, 000.00 for the Ukrainian Canadian Congress- Alberta Provincial Council to assist in the settlement in Alberta of evacuees and displaced persons from the war in Ukraine.
We continue funding the work of local, national and international humanitarian organizations.
Our principal current fundraiser is for the Canada-Ukraine Surgical Aid Program (“CUSAP”).
CUSAP is a humanitarian surgical aid initiative that provides life-changing care to patients affected by the war in Ukraine. The surgery mission model is based on the organization and mobilization of a self-sufficient multidisciplinary surgical team comprising all requisite staff, surgical hardware and supplies. Most cases are craniofacial and orthopedic reconstructions of patients with extremely complex post-traumatic defects and deformities.
CUSAP sends teams of Canadian medical volunteers (surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, ICU and internist physicians, pharmacists, rehabilitation specialists, and support staff) to provide medical care to civilian and military patients affected by the war in Ukraine. With the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, most CUSAP medical missions have been to Czeladz, Poland.
As our organization was founded by Poles who arrived in Canada as refugees after World War II, we are inspired by this humanitarian project which sees Canadians, Ukrainians and Poles working together to provide life-changing surgery to Ukraine’s war victims.
CUSAP is a joint project of the Canada-Ukraine Foundation and the Sunnybrook Medical Sciences Centre and is headed by Dr. Oleh Antonyshyn, Professor of Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery at the University of Toronto, with a subspecialty practice in craniomaxillofacial surgery. Dr. Antonyshyn is part of the Plastic surgery health team at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto.
